If you are on social media, chances are you are noticing how many followers you have and likes your posts get. But what if I told you those don’t matter as much as you think they do? The number you should be looking at is probably one you don’t even think of.
No, I don’t mean the type of engagement that involves a ring. I mean the engagement between you and your followers! What is the percent of your followers that like your posts? Personally, I like seeing 10% engagement and that seems normal.
What If It’s Less?
Don’t worry! When I notice my engagement has tanked I like to do two things. First, I like to scroll through my feed and see which of my posts have the highest engagement. If it wasn’t a special post like an announcement, giveaway, etc. try and repeat that. Obviously, this is what your followers like to see. Second, I like to try and give my followers a reason to engage with me. Ask a question at the end of your caption. Most people won’t comment without liking a post. This will drive up your engagement in two ways, yay!
Remember you are more than your numbers. Unless social media is your job or you need certain numbers for a sponsorship/ambassadorship, don’t sweat it. Have fun with your account. It is YOUR account after all. You don’t owe anyone anything when it comes to your account.
