This week is the big week! It’s Rolex week!! Top riders from all around the world will come to The Kentucky Horse Park for the only 4 star in North America.
If you were lucky enough to snag tickets, you are going to have to pack. Here are some things to keep in mind while you are packing for the big event! (haha eventing pun)
It’s going to rain
No matter what the forecast is, it’s going to rain, especially on cross country day. Be prepared! On cross country day, I wear by tall barn boots that are completely waterproof. If it doesn’t rain, these will allow you to stand in water where other people can’t.
I also have a string bag with a rain jacket, rain poncho, and an umbrella. There have been years where I have used all three at once. If nothing else, you always have options. (I would leave the umbrella as a last resort as it can be distracting and block other people’s view.)
Have After Show Clothes
If it’s going to rain, the obvious is going to happen. You are going to get wet. Once you get back to wherever you are staying, you will probably want to shower and get into dry clothes. Wet clothes are no fun, especially jeans. Even if you just bring one full set of clothes, with extra personals, to wear out to restaurants or around the hotel, extra clothes are a good idea.
Some good extras to have with you are:
- A string bag – I have mine with me only on cross country day
- Baseball cap – great to keep the rain off your face
- Sunglasses – just in case there is sun (fingers crossed)
- Portable phone charger
- Lots of space on your phone or a camera
- Sharpies if you want to get autographs
