Do you ever have one of those really great days that you really needed at exactly that moment? Well today was that day. Today has been my favorite day of the entire trip and there isn’t much that’s going to top it.
Our group was meeting at a metro stations about 30 minutes away this morning. Since my roommate and I are definitely not morning people, we got up 10 minutes before we needed to leave and popped into a bakery on our way. I got a pain chocolaut (bread with chocolate in the middle) and it was perfect for walking and eating.
Atelier des Lumieres
I am just going to take a hot minute to talk about where we went this morning because if you are ever in Paris, you have got to go here no matter what. Seriously, if you go nowhere else, go to Atelier des Lumieres! It’s an immersive art experience like nothing you have ever been to before. We watched the Van Gogh exhibit twice and the two shorter exhibits one time each. I really don’t know who to describe it because I have never experienced anything remotely close to it before.
How it works is that you enter into this huge room that has two smaller rooms inside, one of which is full of mirrors, a in floor reflecting pool, and a partial second floor that is kind of off to one side. The exhibit is a series of projects on the walls, the pool, the floor, and the inside of both rooms that put you inside the paintings. If there is a wooden or brick floor in a painting, the floor becomes wooden or brick. If the painting is of the ocean or a room, you fell like you are in the ocean or in the room. It was such a mind blowing experience and I loved it so much that I almost cried multiple times. Seriously, y’all need to experience this place because you will never look at art the same way.
After the exhibits, we went to the Seine for lunch. We stopped at a burger place called BOB or Best of Burgers. It was a little pricey but oh so worth it. I got a cafe frappe and a bacon cheese burger. Both were amazing and that’s saying something because I am not a coffee fan. It was so nice to be able to sit outside right by the river and just hang out with everyone while having lunch.
After we learned how to do graffiti (legally of course), we headed back to the dorm to get ready for our next test and then headed out for dinner. We had seen the drink menu for the place we went and loved the name of their virgin cocktails. Instead of s*x on the beach it was called kissing on the beach. We were sold when we saw that they had mozzarella sticks as well. We ended up splitting their snack basket which had mozzarella sticks, wings, chicken fingers, onion rings, fries, and some kind of chicken cheese ball. I also ordered a s*x on the beach because I had heard of the drink a while back and was curious about what it tasted like. The snack basket was perfect because we were hungry but not a full meal hungry so it was the perfect amount of food. The cocktail was also really good. I have found that I am more of a fruity drink person rather than a wine or straight alcohol. The drink was perfect because it was fruity enough that I didn’t taste the alcohol but not too strong on any of the flavors.
